A new project for Summer 2006, Fishtail is a collaboration between Pete Newman on clarinets, the excellent soul/jazz vocalist Cath Coombs and the highly versatile guitarist Phil Stevenson. The group is taking jazz, soul and blues as a starting point and seeing where it can take it within the confines of a trio. Expect a range of other styles (African, Eastern European, South American) to be experimented with as time goes on.
Pete is currently performing on clarinet and the giant contra-alto clarinet in the trio, with Cath on vocals, but plans are afoot to integrate Cath's assertive cello playing and Pete is starting to dabble with looping effects and playing multiple horns at once, so watch this space...
