HORN ARRANGEMENTS
As well as performing on clarinets and saxophones, Pete also has many years experience arranging music for bands. He is especially adept at arranging for horn sections.
Fully Funktional provides an obvious showcase for Pete's horn arrangements with a range of 4 to 6 horns, but smaller sections can also be very effective. In a recording studio, horn parts can often be overdubbed by the same musician, building up a big sound with fewer players. Much of the material on recent Horace X albums has used Pete as the entire horn section, layering clarinet with tenor and baritone saxophones. If trumpet, trombone or other horns are required for a project, Pete can contact appropriate players and get them in for you as well as arranging the appropriate parts if you don't already have players in mind.
Providing horn parts for an existing song can work in a variety of ways. You may already have an idea for a main line but not know how to voice it for a section or how to transfer it to the appropriate instruments. Alternatively, you may have a song which you just feel would sound right with horns on it and want the horns to provide some kind of stabs and backing for the vocal, but you don't know specifically what they should do. In another scenario you may already have a horn section for a live band, but no-one in the band knows how to go about putting the parts together to make it sound good. Or perhaps you have a half-written song that needs an effective break and you feel a composed horn section break would be more appropriate than a third guitar solo.
There are as many possible scenarios as there are songs. Pricing for horn arranging services will vary greatly with their complexity. Please contact Pete for an estimate of cost and how long your project would take him. If the horn arrangement involves a significant amount of composition, Pete may request a composer credit (including an appropriate small % of royalties). Please be aware of copyright issues if you are recording or re-arranging other people's music (visit the PRS for Music website for full information on copyrights and royalties).
If required, fully recorded horn arrangements can be provided on a long distance basis. You can send Pete the pre-recorded song that requires horns and he will arrange them, record them and send them back to you. You never even have to meet him!
